As businesses start to return to the physical office you may be feeling mixed emotions about the change. Here are some of our top tips to manage the change and your physical and mental wellbeing.

1. Identify your stress signals

We can’t remove stress from our lives, but we can learn to manage it. When you understand the sources of your stress, write them down, get to know how you react and how you can prevent those concerns. You might even find that those concerns are less overwhelming than it seemed before you put a name to it.

2. Stick to your routine as much as possible

Over the last few months, many have been adapting to new ways of working, environment and routines. Whilst change is inevitable, try to stick to your new routine as much possible. Think about how much time it took to get comfortable with remote working, the transition back to work will be no different. If you’ve started to make time for exercise in the morning, try and keep that a part of your new morning routine.

3. Write down the 3 things you want to accomplish each day

Start your day by writing down your top three things you want to accomplish for that day. When you are creating a list of priorities for that day you are focusing your intentions, adding structure and clarity, setting yourself up for actionable tasks, and helping to fight distractions from other ‘to do’ lists. Once those tasks are done, finish your workday knowing you’ll come back tomorrow, ready and re-energised.

4. Keep talking and stay connected

Everyone has faced unique challenges during the pandemic that will shape our experiences when we return to the office. Given all the ongoing stresses, there has never been a more important time to keep talking and keep connected. Utilise the communication tools at your disposal to keep in touch and check in with your peers.

5. Make sleep and exercise a priority

Performing at your best in work is gained by giving your mind and body the tools it needs to focus your energy and keep you balanced. Incorporating exercise and enough sleep is essential for tackling your day. Getting a good night’s sleep consistently is one of the most important parts of a healthy lifestyle.

6. Get comfortable talking about your boundaries

The new office environment will be very different to how you used to know it. Get to know the new rules and understand your own boundaries. We all need to get comfortable with talking to people about social distancing, limited contact, wearing masks and following the right measures to make everyone feel safe, without the fear of being judged. Most importantly, respect other people's views. You may be more relaxed with social distancing, while others would be more comfortable if you kept back.
