I had a few questions to ask Nicole Wong associate consultant in Hong Kong and she shared the challenges she has faced, the best career advice she has been given and why she chose to work at Eames.

1. What is your advice for someone just getting into recruitment?
To begin with there is a lot of things to learn such as the background of companies, people relationship and culture within their field, general market information, etc. There are lots to overcome including calling and meeting strangers asking for information, advising career change, and asking for roles. Somewhat in the middle of this, you’ll find the fun and meaning of your work. You are helping people in getting a career uplift they deserve, a new opportunity so giving them interview tips which really does matter. I guess tenacious is the key.

2. What is it about recruitment that has kept you in the industry?
I’d say at this moment, it's the support I receive from my teammates in Hong Kong and it is always about learning.

3. What is your proudest moment in your career to date?
There was a role that I thought it is impossible to fill and I was able to fill it with a good quality candidate. The client was happy to proceed with the offer and the candidate was happy about my service where she even referred some of her friends who were looking for a role to me.

4. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career so far and how have you overcome that?
The biggest challenge is maintaining a strong pipeline and business development. The ways I have overcome that are modelling others and reaching out to my manager, and always reminding myself to focus on what I can improve on.

5. What is your number 1 secret to success?
I think it is to never give up. There is always someone suitable for the role, you just haven’t found them yet.

6. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
Take a break. Whenever you feel stuck or lost, get away from your working desk for 10 minutes, then come back. You’ll find it easier to organize your to-do list. Also, Keeping a very strong pipeline. This is how you don’t put all your hopes in one basket and one 'failure' doesn’t cause panic.

7. What are you driven by and how do you stay motivated?
I am driven by growth. It is the ability to show myself that I know more about the roles, culture, concerns, companies, market trends, leadership styles, etc. I'm also driven by the ability to share information, advice and make an impact on others.

8. How do you keep a work-life balance?
Honestly, I am not very good at it. To begin with, I am trying to get off work on time. Unless I have a high priority email, otherwise I won’t go back and turn on my computer after I finish work.

9. Why Eames?
It is a platform where everyone is helpful. I get lots of support from my managers and my learning and development coach, also emotional support from colleagues!

10. People would be surprised if they knew?
I am actually an introvert.
