I had a few questions to ask Ben Meoded, a technology recruitment consultant in the UK and he shared his advice for someone just getting into the recruitment industry, the biggest challenge he has faced and why he chose to work at Eames.

1. How did you get into recruitment?

Through a friend. I was working in real estate and I have always found myself to be a people person. It made complete sense to get into a sales environment where I could utilise this, interacting and meeting new people every day.

2. What is your advice for someone just getting into recruitment?

I would definitely advise being ready for when things don’t go your way. I feel like it is definitely a numbers game, there will always be setbacks. As long as you can take the downs, use them as motivation to work harder. Then the ups will be even sweeter.

3. What is it about recruitment that has kept you in the industry?

The feeling of finding someone their dream job. Either because of the role or simply because they will be earning a lot more money. The satisfaction it gives is just the best feeling. I have made loads of friends so far and intend on making many more.

4. What is the proudest moment in your career to date?

I think my proudest career moment would be making a placement in Canada. It may seem small, however, I have only ever worked in European markets. I managed to make a placement 3 weeks after having a briefing with the client. I worked until 10 pm most nights due to the time zone difference. It may not be the biggest achievement but it is definitely one I am most proud of.

5. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your career so far and how have you overcome that?

When Covid hit, I was furloughed at my last company and became quite lost. When interviewing with Eames, my manager helped me create and plan, a clear path and future for myself which I think definitely faded away previously.

6. What is your number 1 secret to success?

Take all losses and learn from them.

7. What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

Setting short-term goals is as important as long-term goals. Don’t get lost in a vision but take accountability every day to better yourself.

8. What are you driven by and how do you stay motivated?

Of course, I am driven by money, more importantly, I am motivated by my family. My siblings are my world and working hard allows me to treat and spoil them as much as I want.

9. How do you keep a work-life balance?

Work hard, Play hard. If you don’t have fun in life, enjoy your time off and see friends, I think you will just burn out and ultimately hate your job. So I always make sure to shut down out of hours and do things that put a smile on my face.

10. Why Eames?

Everyone genuinely is so nice and just wants the best for you and your career. There is a clear career path to succeed here.
